About the series Some say it's magic, some say it's love. Others credit the sea, sun and sand as the healing powers behind Sea View House. Does the truth really matter for the temporary residents of this special place? In the coastal town of Pilgrim Cove, strangers are welcomed, and everyone else takes a front row seat to watch a love story unfold. The series begins with HER LONG WALK HOME

Rebecca Hart has her life together--great job, great friends and ready to run the Boston Marathon. Her life turns in an instant when she'd injured in the bombing.

Single dad and veterinarian, Adam Fielding, intends to remain a bachelor after being "abandoned" twice. Once by the love of his life and once by a second-best girlfriend.

When Rebecca arrives at Sea View House to recover, neither she not Adam is prepared to let the magic of the place affect them.

Will these two open their hearts and run toward a new finish line together?

I love the other stories about Pilgrim Cove and the people who live and are drawn into the life and love of the community. This one touches the heart and works as well on its' own as it does as a continuation of previous books. Strong characters, an interesting storyline and a heroine you'll actively root for all combine to ring very true in a tale of restoration and finding home and love. Cannot say enough about Linda Barrett's books - each one takes you away, teaches you things and helps you appreciate the special things in your own life. Just finished Her Picture Perfect Family and can't wait for Book 3 in December!

Her Long Walk Home Sea View House Book 1 edition by Linda Barrett Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Need to read a heartwarming sweet story? This is a good option. She was an athlete taking part in a marathon. She became disabled because two evil men sabotaged the games. They planted a bomb which killed and injured innocent athletes. I remember our horror at the time this real-life tragedy occurred. Just two months later this top athlete was released from rehab minus her left leg. She was still getting used to her prosthetic leg when she arrived at Pirate's Cove where a group of retired artisans delighted in helping out those going through a rough time. They rented out a big home overlooking the sea, adapting it to suit the needs of each consecutive tennant while they healed. Their involvement did not stop there. Calling themselves the ROMEOS they cheerfully masterminded relationships between deserving partners. This is part of a series which will be worth reading!!!
Rebecca Hart was one of the spectators who was seriously injured at the Boston Marathon bombing. She lost her left leg below the knee. It is now a few months later and she is looking for a short term place to live in Pilgrim Cove. She wants to become invisible.

Becca has always been an athlete and learning to live in her new world has taken a toll on her. She is in rehab, she is working hard to develop her strength and be able to be self sufficient.

She runs into a very special deal. She can live for free in Sea View House. She will have the down stairs apartment, it is right on the sea and she can hear the waves and the gulls.

Two of the people she meets in Pilgrim Cove are Adam Fielding and his daughter, Sara. Adam is a veterinarian who rescues greyhound dogs who are former racers. He hopes to build a center for rescued greys.

Becca and Adam become friends and Becca and Sara become “sisters of the heart.”

This is a lovely gentle story. The plot is woven around Becca's struggle to rebuild her life and regain the confidence she once had. It is also about a town filled with people who care about and support one another. The ROMEO's are Retired Older Men who Eat Out. They believe in the magic of love and caring for other human beings.

The characters are very likable. Becca and Adam are terrific but the character who stole the show for me was Sara. She is a very wise 10 year old who sees the world around her and wants to make it better.

I liked this book very much. If you are a reader who enjoys small town life filled with characters who are interesting, this is a book you will love. And if you are a reader who wants to see a story of someone who was a survivor of the attack in Boston and is overcoming very well, this is a book you will love.
This stand-alone is easy to follow. No editing errors, graphic violence or drag-you-down drama.

This storyline focuses on a Boston Marathon bombing victim and greyhound rescues. Realistic procedures, actions and reactions. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking and memorable dialogue.

“They have meds for the physical pain, Mr. Quinn. No tears there. As for the rest, well, as my mother taught me from the beginning Life hurts. Deal with it.”

She adjusted her seat and got out of the car. “I hate the whole idea of using a handicapped spot. I could walk farther than this.” She pointed to the entrance of the place, taking in the wide wraparound porch, tables set outside in the warmer weather. She felt Josie’s arm around her, squeezing gently.
"It’s the car door, honey. You need a wide space to open it. You know that. And you can’t guarantee you’ll have enough space in a regular spot.”

No desire to re-read this story. I am always interested in works by this author.
This was a great book!! I loved the way it told of their story, including parts of others in the series. .It was loving not raunchy!

I loved the story which told of their romance not their love-life. It included people from the other books in the series, which I love! It really intertwined with the other books in the series. In telling of the romance of the two main characters, the writer included one main event that most everybody would have heard of. It used that throughout the story to keep it going.
This book was just OK. The characters felt one dimensional and the idea behind the plot was great but never really blossomed for me. There was too much internal dialogue and not enough actual conversation between the characters to make me really invest in the romance. And while Sara was adorable, I have a 10 year old daughter and she sounds nothing like her. Sara was more like a 5 year old. Sorry to say it, but this book was just mediocre for me.
